In Black Ops 7, most players think they are doing something special because they can slide-cancel and beam people, but the real difference comes from utility and how you mess with enemy info, almost like stacking your own little cheap CoD BO7 Bot Lobbies advantage into every round. The Decoy Grenade is a perfect example. People usually just chuck it anywhere to make some random noise, then forget about it. When you actually place it with a plan in mind, it turns into a tool that drags defenders away from the real play. In Search & Destroy, tossing a decoy toward B while your squad quietly hits A can pull that one key anchor off the site, and suddenly the bomb goes down with almost no resistance.
Mind Games In Multiplayer
The Decoy really shines when you mix it with perks that already mess with enemy awareness. Ghost is the obvious partner. You are off the UAV, but your decoy is pumping out fake gunfire and footsteps. So the enemy hears chaos close by, checks the radar, sees nothing, and hesitates. That split second where they are stuck between pushing and holding an angle is where you slide in from a weird flank and clean them up. It feels cheap, but it works. I like using decoys to fake full team pushes too. Toss one into a lane, throw a stun somewhere else, and suddenly the other team is convinced they are being collapsed on when it is just you rotating to a power position.
Trap Plays And Cheap Picks
Another thing players do not use enough is pairing decoys with lethal traps. If you throw a decoy into a tight corner, then stick a C4 or a mine right next to it, sweaty players will sprint in trying to farm an easy kill on what they think is a distracted enemy. They hear shots, they see the indicator, and they ego-chow without thinking. By the time they realise it is just a decoy, they are already in the blast radius. It is simple, a bit toxic, but extremely effective. Over a full match, those free kills add up, and you start to notice that people stop trusting their own audio, which is exactly what you want.
Using Decoys In Zombies
Decoys are not only for Multiplayer. In Zombies, especially on Ashes of the Damned, they are almost mandatory for some of the more annoying challenges. There is that "get kills without firing your gun" one that drives people mad. The Toxic Growth setup saves your sanity. Drop your Toxic Growth in a doorway or narrow path, throw the decoy right in the middle, and just watch. Zombies pile into the thorns chasing the noise, and they shred themselves while you just stand back. It is lazy, sure, but it moves the camo grind along way faster than running around knifing everything.
Selfish Plays Around Chompy Bin
On the newer map with the Chompy Bin, decoys even help you deal with the chaos from both zombies and random teammates. While you are feeding Perk-a-Cola cans into the bin you are super exposed, and nobody really covers you. I started tossing a decoy off to the far side of the area so the horde, and usually the newer players, drift toward the sound and visuals. That clears enough space for me to safely trade in my cans and keep the run going.
