Hi everyone! I need some advice. One of my long-term clients suddenly developed mild eye redness and irritation after her last infill. We’ve been using my standard high-speed glue for months without issues, but it seems like her eyes have become sensitive to the fumes, especially now that pollen season is here.

I really don’t want to lose her as a client. Can anyone recommend a good low-fume or clear adhesive that actually has decent retention? I know sensitive glues usually sacrifice retention, but I’m looking for something that strikes a good balance. Where do you usually order yours?

Dealing with sudden sensitivities is so stressful! It happens a lot during allergy season because the client's immune system is already on high alert.

First off, make sure you're using a handheld fan or a nano mister at the end of the set to cure the fumes before she opens her eyes. Also, switching to a clear glue (without carbon black) helps a ton because carbon black is a super common allergen. If you use a lower-fume adhesive, just prep the natural lashes extra well with a good primer to compensate for the slightly weaker bond.

Thanks for the tip on carbon black! I actually never thought about the pigment being the trigger—I always assumed it was just the cyanoacrylate fumes. I’ll definitely try a clear, sensitive formulation for her next appointment. My regular distributor only carries strong, fast-curing black glues though. Do you guys have a go-to online store that ships fast and carries a wide variety of gentle adhesives?

I had a similar case last autumn with two of my regular clients. Switching them to a low-fume, clear glue completely solved the redness issue!
I usually restock my sensitive glues and gel removers from this lashes https://stacylash.com/ . They have detailed descriptions for each adhesive’s fume level and toxicity index, which really helped me pick the right clear glue for sensitive cases. Retention is surprisingly good too (about 4-5 weeks if the client follows proper aftercare). Definitely worth checking out!
